Cataract Surgery

Cataract surgery is a safe and effective way to restore vision. During cataract surgery, your cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens. It is done as an outpatient procedure and only requires a minimal recovery period.

Sometimes the tissue that encloses the artificial intraocular lens, placed during cataract surgery, becomes cloudy and blurs the vision. This is sometimes called a secondary cataract, or a posterior capsule opacity. This can happen months or even years after cataract surgery. The outpatient procedure is treated with a laser, called a YAG laser. This is a simple procedure, which takes one to two minutes, that creates a hole in the capsule that enables light to pass through.

Glaucoma Treatment

Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve and is the second leading cause of blindness worldwide. The exact cause of Glaucoma is unknown, but most surgical procedures and prescriptions focus on lowering intraocular pressure, IOP, (fluid pressure within the eye). In some glaucoma cases, laser treatment is an excellent option to help reduce IOP. Laser Trabeculoplasty consists of a two to three minute procedure that opens up microscopic channels, in the trabecular meshwork to facilitate fluid outflow from the eye. There are some options for Glaucoma treatment that can be done in conjunction with cataract surgery, such as an implantable iStent® device, or a Endocylophotocoagulation (ECP) laser system.

Types:

  • G6 micropulse Diode Laser

  • ECP- Endocylophotocoagulation

  • SLT- Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty

  • i Stent

  • Cypass Stent

  • Xen Stent

  • Express Shunt

Diabetic Treatment

Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes and is one of the leading causes of blindness. This disease occurs when diabetes damages the tiny blood vessels inside the retina, which is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. Depending on your own unique situation, sometimes surgery is necessary to halt or slow the progression of diabetic retinopathy. Depending on the severity and type of retinopathy, injections or varying surgical laser treatments can help. An example of one of the laser treatments we offer is Panretinal Photocoagulation, or PRP. PRP works by reducing the amount of new retinal blood vessel growth (neovascularization).

Types:

  • PRP

  • Focal

Eyelid Surgeries (Oculoplastics)

We offer eyelid surgery in OKC at our Eye Surgery Center for both cosmetic and medical purposes. Our most common type of eyelid procedure is blepharoplasty (sometimes called an “eye lift”), which can help get rid of drooping eyelids and bags under the eyes. Overall, this can improve the appearance of the eyelids and in some cases improve upper and peripheral vision.

  • Blepharoplasty Upper/Lower

  • Ptosis

  • Ectropion

  • Entropion

  • Tarsorrhaphy
